Plantae Nimbus by PurpleHunterKitty Plantae Nimbus by PurpleHunterKitty
A big thanks to my friend balloonshooter for thinking of a name for my character's species! :]

So, this creature is basically Ava in her most natural form. She is one of the alien species I have thought of that are based around the states of matter; this one being gasses. That being said, I didn't want her to be entirely just a gas cloud. I wanted her biological structure to make at least a little bit of sense, even though there is still copious amounts of fictional fairytale magic that makes her species tick. XD
The ideas I have now are still very rough and unfinished, and I have no idea if they are good, mediocre, cliché, or just flat out terrible, but this is what I came up with so far:

The plantae nimbus is a species that derive from plant-like pod structures that are filled with a thick gaseous substance. The pod is about the same size and shape as a large exercise ball when fully matured, and has a pattern similar to what the offspring's mask will look like. Once fully developed, the pod will fall from its tall plant stalk and shatter on the ground below. The cloud inside will start to form a crude body shape of choice, and select the biggest pod shard from the pile and begin to sharpen, shape, and clean the edges from the set thicker portion on rough environmental surfaces such as rocks and other rigid plants. After a short amount of time gathering themselves, they assume a body type best suited for their environment and begin to wander.

I'm going to do the rest in a bullet format since bullets are fun and easier for me to read.

Traits and Abilities of the Plantae Nimbus:
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi can change their body's appearance to mimic the appearance of most anything that isn't too small or large in comparison to their original size, though their "mask," once shaped, cannot be changed without causing severe and possibly lethal damage to the creature.
:bulletblack: Masks of the plantae nimbi have the ability to grow back as long as all of the four main internal structures are intact. However, if one of the structures are broken off completely without a fraction being left in the main piece, the organism will die. The positioning of the four structures vary between each creature.
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi cannot pierce the water's surface with their main body, though their mask, being solid, can go beneath the water level.
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi weigh little to nothing, allowing them to walk on delicate surfaces without manipulating them too much.
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi can float slightly when in a warm enough environment.
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi can pick up basic sturdy items using compact wind currents, but have trouble lifting more delicate items and manipulating complex contraptions, such as if they ever encounter a door (which Ava does).
:bulletblack: Plantae nimbi tend to favor the most simple and efficient body design during everyday living.

I believe this is enough information for now. I'll fine-tune some other ideas later and create a proper reference sheet for the species as a whole on a later date. Feel free to leave suggestions and ideas in the comments. C:
